Wood Bending Calculator — Steam, Kerf & Laminate

Kerf spacing ≈ kerf width × bend radius ÷ cut depth. Enter your radius and stock thickness (mm) to get kerf spacing and cut count — plus steam bend radius, steaming time and laminate strip count.

How We Calculate This

This calculator provides guidance for three wood bending methods: steam, kerf, and laminate bending.

Steam bending

Minimum radius = thickness × species bend factor. Steaming time = 1 hour per 25mm.

Kerf bending

Kerf spacing = kerf width × radius ÷ cut depth. Number of kerfs based on arc length.

Laminate bending

Strip thickness based on radius. Number of strips = target thickness ÷ strip thickness.
