Wood Glue Calculator — Calculate PVA & Glue Quantities

Calculate how much wood glue you need based on joint areas, glue type, and number of surfaces to coat.

Length of the glue surface

Width of the glue surface

Apply glue to both surfaces

Recommended for strongest bond

How We Calculate This

This calculator estimates wood glue quantities based on the area of your joints and the recommended spread rate for your chosen glue type.

The formula

Glue needed (g) = Total joint area (m²) x Spread rate (g/m²)

Joint area is calculated from the length and width of each joint surface. If gluing both sides (recommended), the area is doubled.

Spread rates used

PVA: 175 g/m² | Polyurethane: 150 g/m² | Hide glue: 200 g/m² | Aliphatic resin: 175 g/m². These are industry-standard rates for optimal bond strength.
