Glue Spread Calculator — Optimal Bond Strength

Work out the correct glue spread rate for optimal bond strength based on joint type and surface area.

Apply glue to both surfaces

Splits the same per-glue-line amount across both mating faces — does not change the total glue needed

How We Calculate This

This calculator determines the correct amount of glue based on your joint area and the recommended spread rate for your joint type.

Spread rates

These rates are the total adhesive per glue line (one joint interface): Edge joints 175 g/m² | Face lamination 150 g/m² | End grain 250 g/m² | Veneer 120 g/m². Spreading the glue across both mating faces splits this same amount between them — it does not double the quantity you need.

The formula

Glue needed = Joint area (m²) × Number of joints × Spread rate (g/m²) × (1 + waste)
