How much paint do I need per square metre?

Most wood paints cover 10-14 m² per litre. Primer covers less (8-10 m²/L) as it seals the wood. Gloss and satin topcoats typically cover 12-14 m²/L.

Do I need primer on bare wood?

Yes. Bare wood should be primed to seal the grain, prevent tannin bleed, and provide a key for the topcoat. Use an appropriate wood primer.

Apply 1 coat of primer plus 2 coats of topcoat on bare wood. Previously painted surfaces in good condition need 1-2 topcoats.
