Blade length = π × Wheel diameter + 2 × Centre distance
This formula assumes both wheels are the same diameter, which is the case for most band saws. The result gives the total blade loop length.

Measure from the centre of the top wheel axle to the centre of the bottom wheel axle. If both wheels are the same diameter, you can measure from the top of one wheel to the top of the other.
If the wheels are different diameters, use the full open-belt formula: Blade length = 2 × centre distance + π × (R1 + R2) + (D1 − D2)² ÷ (4 × centre distance), where R1, R2 are the wheel radii and D1, D2 are the wheel diameters. The final term corrects for the slight extra wrap caused by unequal wheels. For equal wheels (D1 = D2) that term is zero and it reduces to π × D + 2 × centre distance, exactly as this calculator computes. This calculator assumes both wheels are the same diameter.
