Adhesive and Fastener Calculations

Choosing the right adhesive or fastener and using the correct amount is essential for strong, long-lasting woodworking joints. Too little glue starves the joint; too much creates a mess and weakens the bond. Wrong screw sizes can split the wood or fail to hold.

PVA wood glue is the most common adhesive in woodworking. The optimal spread rate is typically 150–200 g/m² for a single glue line. Our wood glue calculator estimates the total glue needed based on your joint areas and the number of surfaces to glue.

Screw selection depends on the timber thickness, wood species, and joint type. The general rule is that the screw should penetrate at least twice the thickness of the piece being attached. Our screw size calculator recommends gauge, length, and pilot hole size for your specific situation.

Two-part epoxy requires precise mixing ratios for proper curing. Most woodworking epoxies use a 1:1 or 2:1 resin-to-hardener ratio by volume. Our epoxy mix calculator works out exact quantities to avoid weak joints from incorrect mixing.
